1. Tell us about yourself and what you do for work?
My name is Michael Campbell. I work for SRP as a Senior Technician. Besides the Mesa Leadership board, I am also on the board for the non-profit Jose's Closet. I'm married, and we will be celebrating 24 years this October. I have one daughter who is in college in KY and will graduate this May. We have 2 dogs and many fish. For the past dozen years or so my hobby has been traveling the country with my daughter for her sports competitions and leadership conferences.
2. What is your position on the board, and what do you do in your board position for Mesa Leadership?
I am the Co-Recruitment Chair. My job is to find, invite, interview, and accept new people into our next classes.
3. What attracted you to attend Mesa Leadership, Training, and Development?
I listened to my co-workers talk about their experience and wanted to learn more about Mesa as well as meet and learn from some of the distinguished leaders that we have in our community.
4. What class year did you graduate?
I was in the class of 2019
5. What was your class project?
We gutted and remodeled the House of Refuge community center to better work for their after-school programs, the children, and the staff.
6. What leadership principle(s) did you learn from attending Mesa Leadership and still use in your leadership style?
That being a leader is more than just having people follow you.
7. What would you say if someone asked you about Mesa Leadership?
I would tell them that if they want to learn about the Mesa that most never know, and to meet great people from around the city (both classmates and community leaders), and to give back to the community, then Mesa Leadership is the place to do all of that.
8. What is a good leader?
Being the person that others want to follow and listen to rather than the person they have to follow. It takes a person that can truly listen and be there for others and to lead them by being the example of what they themselves should strive to be.
9. Anything else about Mesa Leadership that you would like to share with us?
That each person will get something different out of Mesa Leadership. They will get out of it what they put into it. Everyone will walk away with new friends and contacts, but the little something special will be what they really cherish and remember from their time in Mesa Leadership.
