Meet Your Mesa Leadership Committee Member Les Kauffman, Committee Member

Posted on Apr. 1, 2024  /   0

  1. Tell us about yourself and what you do for work?
I work for The Boeing Company at the Apache Helicopter plant in Mesa, across from Falcon Field. I’m a Business Operations Specialist for Boeing Test & Evaluation, where I work on and manage a lot of technical writing and communications projects.
I’ve been married to my wife Pam for 31 years and we have three sons, Ryan, Joe, and Max. We like to be outdoors—fishing, hiking, camping (crabbing and picking oysters and digging clams back in our home state of Washington). We love to travel, especially to warm, tropical places. Most of all, our family loves to be together and do things together, whatever it may be.

  2. What is your position on the board, and what do you do in your board position for Mesa Leadership?
I’m a Committee Member shadowing Communication Chair Patti Oskvarek.

  3. What attracted you to attend Mesa Leadership, Training, and Development?
Boeing has leadership programs, but they are all business-related, and I was looking for something with more of a charitable focus and community involvement. And I certainly found it with MLDP.

  4. What class year did you graduate?
     2022

  5. What was your class project?
Our project was to renovate and revitalize the inside and outside of a Child Crisis of Arizona Boys Group Home.

  6. What leadership principle(s) did you learn from attending Mesa Leadership and still use in your leadership style?
I like the John Maxwell quote, “The Best Problem Solvers Don’t Work Alone,” because I think we’re always better when we work together with others.

  7. What would you say if someone asked you about Mesa Leadership?
I would say that you are not going to find a better program or more dedicated group of people in any community leadership program. Or one that is more fun.

  8. What is a good leader?
A good leader understands that they are on a lifelong journey to support and serve others, to continue to learn and grow and help others do the same—and to listen twice as much as they speak.

  9. Is there anything else about Mesa Leadership you want to share with us?
There’s a very good reason this program has been around for more than 40 years, and it has everything to do with the people and the love and care and effort they put into it. Anyone who becomes a part of this organization is among the highly privileged. It is a top notch program and organization.
